Online Jobs Postings Highest In July

Online job posting are on the rise in India, with July recording a 25 per cent annual growth, highest in 2014. Among major cities, Baroda has surged ahead of Bangalore with 45 per cent year on year growth.
The trend is expected to carry on in the coming months as the economy rebounds. In industry wise purview, home appliances have shown a remarkable increase of 69 per cent with telecom being the lowest growing industry.
Home appliances continue to lead all monitored industry sectors by the way of long term growth recruitment activity climbs 69 per cent above July 2013. The annual growth momentum improved 13 per cent points between June and July 2014. The sector has been charting progressive improvement since January this year. Nevertheless, there were fewer opportunities created month on month.
Media and entertainment followed closely with 63 per cent growth in online opportunities year on year, as the pace of growth improved 10 percentage points between June and July 2014.
Online recruitment in automotive/ancillaries (up two percent) sector picked up in July, registering a positive year on year for the first time since March 2013.
All key employment generating sectors continued to exhibit healthy online recruitment levels vis-à-vis the previous year.
Furthermore, the rate of growth improved in all, between June and July 2014. IT-hardware, software; business process outsourcing/ information technology enabled services; engineering, cement, construction, iron/steel; production and manufacturing; banking/financial services, insurance and travel and tourism registered 36, 27, 11, 23, 10, and 44 per cent respectively.
IT-hardware, software and travel & tourism are the strongest sectors charting an average annual growth of 33 per cent in 2014 so far.
Online recruitment activity in telecom sector is down 17 percent from the year ago level. The sector recorded the most notable annual decline among all monitored industry sectors.
Online demand continues to escalate for senior management professionals. Demand for the group surpassed the year ago level by a notable 59 per cent. At the same time, online demand for the group continues to ease on the month; down five per cent.
Engineering/production professional witnessed a double digit growth in online demand, year on year, for the first time since April 2011. The rate of long term growth improved 23 percentage points from five per cent in June 2014 to 29 per cent in July 2014.
Among major cities, Bangalore (up 41 per cent) ranked at the top in terms of increase in online hiring between July 2013 and July 2014. While the long term growth momentum improved in all five metro markets between June and July 2014, online recruitment in Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad eased from the three month ago level. Year on year, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad and Chennai registered 32, 27, 20 and 32 per cent growth respectively.

Employment Rises 34% In Eight Years


The number of employed persons in the country grew by 34.35 per cent to 127.7 million in eight years up to 2013, according to the sixth Economics Census.

Employment in urban parts increased by 37.46 per cent to 61.4 million in 2013, whereas in rural areas the growth was 31.59 per cent to 66.2 million compared to 2005.

The proportion of women in total workforce rose to 25.56 per cent in 2013 from about 20 per cent in 2005. In urban areas, the proportion of female workers was 19.8 per cent and 30.9 per cent in rural areas.

Maharashtra has the highest number of employees at 14.3million, followed by Uttar Pradesh at 13.7 million, West Bengal at 11.5 million, Tamil Nadu 10.8 million and Gujarat at 9.063 million. Among union territories, Delhi has the maximum number of employment at 2.98 million followed by Chandigarh at 0.23 million and Puducherry at 0.21 million in 2013.

The country’s population was over1.21 billion in 2011, according to 2011 census. The Economic Census does not include employment in agriculture, public administration, defence and compulsory social security services activities.

When asked about employment scenario, National Statistical Commission chairman Pronab Sen said, “The growth in employment at 34 per cent in eight years period is a good rate. That means that it had grown at an annual rate of over per cent, when the population is growing at two per cent. “The number of establishment or firms increased by 41.73 per cent to 58.4 million in 2013 over 2005 level. The number of firms grew by 45.57 per cent during eight years to 23.4 million in urban areas. Such firms grew by 39.28 per cent to 35 million in rural areas during the period.

According to the sixth Economic Census, the percentage of hired workers in the entire workforce was 45.69 per cent in 2013.
